Padilla: Done with Mocha

I AM done with Mocha. Whether she takes on Leni in a kilay match or grinds herself “pababa” to the core of the earth, I do not care anymore. The relief comes from the thought that public funds (read OUR taxes) will no longer be paid to someone who has despoiled the discipline of communication with her fake and lewd news. However, all the sour cream that has been daubed over Mocha has been read by some as slut shaming and anti-women. A friend similarly questioned: if someone has been behaving like a slut and you call her out for it, why is it wrong then? Has feminism suddenly made sluts into saints?

But it wasn’t the alleged promiscuity but the drivel of a public servant spinning the discipline of communication into a derisible pursuit that was at the center of my discontent. Those schooled in the Communication are constantly drilled to double check data, establish credibility of sources, subordinate information by backtracking details along with the skillful use of language, among others. So when Mocha used a photograph of soldiers from another country to send off the Filipino troops to Marawi and merely shrugged it off as “symbolism” I felt like that meme that said “you awaken my inner serial killer.”

That was the same feeling altogether when she allowed another blogger to do the pepe-dede-ralismo routine in her office. Why a woman would allow her genitals to be used to promote a government system is still beyond me until this day.

Thus her resignation is a relief--- that kind when you’ve finally found a spotless toilet with clean running water after a 12-hour travel by land. Whether she runs for a senatorial post, I cannot care anymore. She may win, but prayers do work and I will call on all my gods and summon all departed ancestors for intercession. I have cringed too many times in my seat watching the “pambansang kamao” in his futile attempts to parry the mental demands of the job. Another one like him can mean cranial hemorrhoids of which there is no known relief.

Mocha asserts that the “bakbakan” has just started but that proud proclamation is to be expected from someone who might have eventually realized that being a novelty does not necessarily precipitate credibility.
