AT ALL cost, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio wants the Davao City-UP Sports Complex swimming pool to be operational in time for the city's Palarong Pambansa 2019 hosting in April.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera bared this to members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum at The Annex of SM City Davao last Thursday.

"The pool will be ready by Palaro. We are prioritizing to finish the swimming pool. Masuko jud si Mayor if dili na mahitabo (The Mayor will be mad if it won't be ready)," Aportadera said, adding that over other facilities being constructed in the 20-hectare sports complex, the swimming pool is of utmost importance.

He said that with the lack of an Olympic-sized 50-meter pool, the swimming event of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018, which was hosted by Davao City, was brought to the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

The city sports chief added, "That's (pool) what we lacked last Davraa Meet that's why we have to bring everybody (swimmers) to Tagum to use their pool."

Meanwhile, Davao City administrator Zuleika Lopez, in a July press conference for the 2018 Davao Para Games, said, "everything is right on track" with the construction of the sports complex and that its soft opening is scheduled during the city's hosting of the Davraa Meet 2019 in late January.

Lopez also said the swimming pool already has a budget, assuring the public that it will be finished on time.

Aside from the Davraa Meet 2019 and Palarong Pambansa 2019, Davao City will also host the Regional Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet 2019 and National Prisaa Games 2019.
