2,005 college students in San Fernando receive scholarship grants

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 2,005 college students in the City of San Fernando received scholarship grants and financial assistance through the Educational Scholarship Assistance Program (ESAP) on October 6 and 7 at the Mini Convention Center of Heroes Hall here.

Mayor Edwin Santiago disclosed that this year, the local government has 1,110 new set of scholars and 945 current scholars coming from the city’s 35 barangays.

“I always say that education will take us to the peak of success, that’s why our youth should not waste to chance to study. Education is something that could not be stolen from you whoever you are,” Santiago told the scholars during the awarding of grants.

Santiago also lauded the efforts of the scholars and the unconditional love and support of the parents to their children. He said that “education is the key to for the better future, but unfortunately not everyone can afford it, this is why the local government puts education as the top priority.”

“Rest assured that we will continue to support you and no one in San Fernando will be left behind,” he added.

The cash grant depends on what category the student belongs depending on his or her general average. Full merit scholars receive P15,000 every semester, has 90 and above average grade and enrolled in courses preferred by the city government such as criminology, environmental science, social work, and midwifery.

Half-merit scholars receive P7,500 every semester, must maintain an average of 85-89 and also enrolled in preferred courses of the city.

Meanwhile, a student who has 80 percent general weighted average receive P5,000 every semester.

John Peter Andrei Quiambao, a two-year full merit scholar studying at Our Lady of Fatima University, expressed his gratitude to the Local Government of San Fernando for having this program, which is truly beneficial to their education expenses.
