Davao councilor urges ACT to apologize to Sara

DAVAO City Councilor Pilar Braga urged the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT)-Davao Chapter to apologize to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Braga, in an interview on Tuesday, October 09, said ACT-Davao's statement might have been misunderstood by the mayor.

She said the group told her that they were merely making comparisons on the benefits the city is giving to the teachers here as compared to the major other cities in the country.

"Kung ing-ana ayusa ninyo kay murag na misunderstand ni Mayor ug kanang di pud maayo (If that is the case, I told them to clarify it because it might have been misunderstood by the mayor, which is not good)," Braga said.

She said even during the time of former mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte, the city has already been giving assistance to the teachers.

"You have to clarify your statement and need to apologize to our mayor," Braga said, adding that the group's social media post on the city's assistance to teachers against other cities in the country might have hurt the mayor.

On October 6, ACT posted on their official Facebook page a list of different cities in the country with the cash allowance amount given to the teaching personnel. It was stated on the post that Davao City is the only city in the country that does not give allowance to their educators.

Duterte-Carpio responded in an Instagram post that the City Government of Davao gave gift cheques worth P2,000 each to all teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) yearly and claims that she has a copy of the budget, photos of distribution and a document of liquidation with all the signatures.

However, ACT-Davao said the gift cheques is different from the allowance they are asking.
