Cebuanas win gold in CitiGreen Tennis

CEBUANA junior netters Elizabeth Abarquez and Tiffany Claire Nocos conquered their respective categories in the 4th CitiGreen Junior Tennis Cup to prevent a gold medal-shutdown for Cebu players in the singles event.

Abarquez of Carcar City, Cebu won the girls’ singles 18-Under crown after beating Rica Trexie Gudelosao of Bohol, 6-0, 6-1. Nocos of Lapu-Lapu City topped the girls’ singles 14-Under over Mia Gemida of Ormoc City, 6-2, 7-5.

Justine Hannah Meneja of Quezon City won the girls’ 16-Under beating Princess Debbie Gom-Os of Zamboanga Del Sur, while Brent Signmond Cortes of Lanao del Norte defeated Angil Jay Balaoing of Koronadal City in the boys’ 14-Under.

The visiting netters also ruled the 12-Under category. Heniz Aslan Carbonilla of Lanao del Norte defeated Gererd Gemida of Ormoc City, 6-0, 6-0, in the boys’ division. Maria Judy Ann Padilla of Ozamiz City won over Tennielle Madis of North Cotabato, 6-2, 6-4, in the girls’ class.

Kean Sebastian Enriquez of Bacoor, Cavite beat Kriz Roque Lim of Urdaneta City, 4-0, 4-0, to win the unisex 10-Under.

The boys’ 18-Under, 16-Under and unisex 8-Under are still played as of press time.

Abarquez also won the doubles Under-18 with partner Rica Trexie Gudelosao after beating the duo of Lovely Romero and May Kristine Aniñon, 8-1.

The winners in the four-day tournament will comprise the CitiGreen Junior Tennis Team which will compete in Penang Junior International Tennis Championship on Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 and Perlis Milo International Junior Tennis Championship on Dec. 4 to 8 in Malaysia before going to Hat Yai-100 Plus International Junior Tennis Championships in Thailand on Dec. 9 to 12.
