Ex-champ taps Tepora as coach

CEBUANO boxing trainer Jingjing Tepora gets a huge break in his coaching career after being signed by former world champion Tomoki Kameda to help him out for his upcoming fight next month.

“I thank the Lord, and Kameda’s team for trusting in my ability to train him to become a world champion again,” Tepora, once a trainer at the Omega Boxing Gym, told SunStar Cebu.

Tepora will be one of Kameda’s coaches in his training camp for a Nov. 12 fight. He will be working with Kameda from Oct. 15 to Nov. 8 in Japan and will be paid P13,400 per week for his services. The coaching contract can be extended with a mutual agreement.

After being relieved of his coaching duties at the Omega Boxing Gym, Tepora worked as a trainer at the Wild Boxing Gym. He’ll be taking a temporary leave from his coaching duties there to pursue a bigger opportunity in Japan.

“They got me as a trainer and wanted me to be a permanent trainer there at Wild. But I asked to take a leave first because of this opportunity in Japan. They understood,” said Tepora, who’s training Salatiel Amit at the Wild Boxing Gym.

Tepora trained Kameda in his brief stay in Cebu City last August. Kameda immediately loved what he saw with Tepora and asked his management to include him in his coaching staff.

Tepora was recommended to Kameda by his brother-in-law, Sulpicio Anoos, who was once Kameda’s trainer.

Tepora is known for building up the career of his younger brother Jhack Tepora. (EKA)
