Editorial: Election fever on

THE public must brace themselves as the national and local candidates will start filing their certificate of candidacy (COC) October 11 until October 17.

The filing of COCs is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Saturday and Sunday.

Aside from electing local and provincial officials, the public must also choose among the senatorial bets and party-list groups for the midterm elections on May 13, 2019.

Now that the election season has finally begun, officials and candidates will again woo the public for their votes. This time, the electorate must be wise in choosing their officials. After all, it’s going to be three long years until 2022.

Poll officials have urged the candidates to file their COC early and thoroughly review their documents.

The election period will be from January 13 to June 12, 2019.

The campaign period for senatorial bets and party-list groups will start on February 12 to May 11 while the campaign period for candidates in the House of Representatives, provincial, city and municipal positions will start on March 30 until May 11.

Candidates are banned from campaigning on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

A gun ban will be enforced for the entire election period from January 13 to June 12 while the liquor ban will be from May 12 to 13.

Let’s be reminded how important this election is. Let our voices be heard.
