PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando as a new magistrate of the Supreme Court (SC).

Hernando, Duterte's fellow San Beda law school graduate, would assume the vacancy left by then SC associate justice and now Ombudsman Samuel Martires.

His appointment paper was signed on Wednesday, October 10, but was released by MalacaƱang on Thursday, October 11.

Hernando is the seventh appointee of Duterte to the high court. He earned his law degree at San Beda College of Law and passed the bar in September 1991.

Hernando served as the CA associate justice for over eight years prior to his appointment at the high tribunal.

Before serving at the appellate court, he was a regional trial court (RTC) judge in San Pablo, Laguna and in Quezon City. He also worked as a state prosecutor with the Justice department for five years.

Meantime, Duterte also appointed Davao City RTC judge Evalyn Arellano-Morales and Davao del Sur RTC judge Loida Posadas-Kahulugan as the new CA associate justices.

Arellano-Morales and Posadas-Kahulugan replaced former CA associate justices Melchor Quirino Sadang and Socorro Inting, respectively.
