City gov’t gives P20,000 to Calumpang Lupon

THE Iloilo City Government gave P20,000 to Barangay Calumpang, Molo as national finalist in this year’s Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award (LTIA) for highly-urbanized city category of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Mayor Jose Espinosa III gave the incentive to members of Barangay Calumpang Lupong Tagapamayapa during Monday’s flag ceremony October 8.

Calumpang was adjudged as regional winner of LTIA recently.

“We congratulate Barangay Calumpang for their success and we hope that all barangays will be inspired by their achievements,” Espinosa said.

The LTIA, which was established in pursuant to Section 406 (b) of the Local Government Code of 1991, mandates the DILG to grant economic and other incentives to Lupon for their outstanding contributions to attain the objectives of the Katarungang Pambarangay or barangay justice system.

The Lupon is an administrative body established by law to operationalize the barangay justice system which is a response to continuing search for indigenous mediation structures capable of resolving disputes within a community, and beyond the formal courts of justice.

Barangay Captain Roberto Niño Jr. said the cash grant will help the Lupon in their information and education campaign, Lupon Zonal hopping, and one-on-one Lupon coaching and mentoring in other schools and municipalities in the city and province of Iloilo.

“Lupon is one way of helping declog the cases filed in courts,” Niño said.

Calumpang represented Western Visayas in the national search since 2013 wherein it was declared as first runner-up in 2016-2017.

They will attend the LTIA awarding ceremony in Pasay City on October 12. (PR)
