Suspects for estafa, illegal gambling arrested

A TRACKER team from the Atok Municipal (MPS) in Benguet arrested a woman wanted for estafa while a small-time gambler was collared by authorities recently.

Michelle Ann Fianza Gaw-an, 30, was arrested at Purok 4, Upper Pinget, Baguio City in the afternoon of October 9 after being charged for estafa.

The arrest came after the issuance of warrant of arrest by Municipal Trial Court in Cities First Judicial Region, third branch Judge Leody Opolinto for violation of Article 315 through falsification of public document with a recommended P40,000 bail bond.

The warrant was issued on September 11 and was received by the said office on October 8, while the accused was brought to Atok MPS and to the concerned court for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, dispatcher Alfonso Calura Elan, 43, was arrested by operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Bureau-Benguet, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station and Mountain Province Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling.

Elan was arrested in the morning of October 9 at Jappa, Shilan-La Trinidad after the operatives spotted the subject person in the act of collecting bet money.

The suspect was asked to present his uniform and identification card as a small-town lottery bet collector which Elan failed to show or produce.

Recovered from the suspect was cash amounting to P420 in different denomination, a pen and a carton containing written number combinations.
