A MUNICIPAL councilor of Lazi, Siquijor, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants around 6 p.m. Thursday, October 11, in front of a public market in Siquijor town, Siquijor.

Senior Inspector Mark Edward Barrios, Siquijor town police chief, identified the fatality as Domingo Arcamo II, a first-term councilor.

Police said Arcamo was in Barangay Poblacion to fetch his wife, which is his regular routine, who is working at the Siquijor District Hospital.

While the victim was waiting inside his vehicle parked in front of the public market, the assailants, on board a motorcycle, drove near the driver's side and the back rider shot the Arcamo twice.

Arcamo succumbed to gunshot wounds in the abdomen and chest.

Police are looking at Arcamo's alleged involvement in illegal drug trade, politics and personal grudge as possible motives.

Lazi Police Station Chief Eugenio Raganas Jr. told Bombo Radyo Cebu that Arcamo was a drug surrenderer, but he did not join the rehabilitation program initiated by the Department of Health.

Raganas added that the victim had been included in the list of drug personalities operating in Siquijor Province.

Barrios and Raganas said they received reports that Arcamo was seeking a second term.

A few weeks ago, Arcamo had a fight with a driver whose vehicle hit his child. (KAL)
