Chacapna: Furious parents and the Division Science festival

Continuation

IN PRIVATE schools, teachers treat students with special care. But not in public schools. You’re lucky if your child belongs to a population of forty. At most, students add up to more than fifty. It is wrong to conclude that public school are for the poor. Some rich but understanding parents sent their kids to public school because it is where the real society can be pictured. You can find the noisy, bully, cheaters, stony, arrogant and all kinds of personalities.

In parent conferences, advisory teachers frequently say or do things to avoid hurting emotions. Particularly if by name, job or parents behavior in coming to school sounds dominant or influential. Elementary and even secondary school parents walk straight to the principal for some student worries and complaints, believing that there is a leverage. Power trip at times befalls principals to superintendents. Hence, entertaining parent’s complaint are given due course but setting aside due processes. Unsolicited advice commands parents to go straight to your child’s teacher and settle the issues within the classroom rather than ranting it to a sitting superior. The best source of information is your child’s adviser.

In the recent Baguio city division Science festival, I came across some of the winning investigatory projects. These are: Evaluation of Systematic Accumulation of Inorganic Pesticides on cabbages etc. by the Baguio Science Foundation. This one is for those aiming to have clean organic foods in the table.

Another one is the “In vitro propagation of Benguet lilies” by the SLU laboratory school. In vitro means propagation of plants in a short period of time. If this will be developed, we might as well propagate vegetables in just a week. The last is the betle nut extracts (moma) as bio battery by the Baguio city Science High school. The last one may solve our looming electric shortage. Pardon me for the rest of the entries, I cannot find their connection to the team “Science for the people Innovation for collective prosperity”. That’s how I see it. It might be the reason why I am not being called to judge. But do you know of an investigatory project regarding automatic door lock that has won over an entry that will reduce fuel consumption? This happened even if the theme is about solving global warming. To be continued
