FORMER Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte broke his silence as he filed on Friday, October 12, his certificate of candidacy (COC) eying a seat in Congress.

The former vice mayor arrived at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office around 12 p.m. along with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio who accompanied him.

“Mao ang na-desisyonan sa pamilya sa pila ka bulan namo nga pagplano sa politika (This is the decision our family has come up after months of planning),” Paolo said, pertaining to the position he chose to run for.

He also said that President Rodrigo Duterte has been telling him to serve the people in Davao City the way he did.

Duterte-Caprio said that the planning with the family about the upcoming elections did not include the President.

“Wala naman siyang [President] message na pinaabot, the only [thing] he asked was kung sino ang Vice Mayor,” Mayor Sara said.

Comelec urged aspiring candidates not to wait until the last day of COC filing schedule.

"Ready man mi pero of course gina-advice namo sa mga gusto mag kandidato na dili na mag-wait for the last day (We are ready for last hour filings but we advise them to file earlier)," Election Officer IV of the 2nd congressional district Jerry Mujal said during an interview with the media on Friday.
