Man killed in Matina

A MAN was shot dead in Matina, Davao City Wednesday night.

Police Officer 2 (PO2) Cirilo Flores, duty investigator of the Talomo police station, identified the victim as Bernard Lapiz, 41, a resident of Mo. 476 Matina Balusong, Barangay 74-A, Matina Crossing.

Flores said Lapiz was standing under a tree near his house when shot in the head by a still unidentified assailant around 6:50 p.m.

Residents in the area describe the gunman to be in red shirt who immediately fled after the shooting.

The body of the victim was brought to the Collado Funeral Parlor in Bangkal.

Police are exploring two angles: the bigamy case against the victim and business rivalry as he was also selling crude oil.

Lapiz is the latest victim killed under the area of responsibility of the Talomo police since the implementation of the election gun ban.

In another report, one Ralph Tiu, 25, tricycle driver, a resident of Blk. 5. Lot 15, SIR New Matina was shot dead on January 26.

Tiu was shot several times around 2:45 a.m. while picking up passengers along Sandawa Road, SIR New Matina. (AD)
