IN five months, the first three floors of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will be operational, as its construction is almost done.

In a news conference yesterday, Councilor Mary Ann de los Santos said that as of this month, the project is already 91 percent complete.

De los Santos said that once civil works on the first three floors of the 10-storey building are done, they will use it to house the emergency room and the out-patient department.

“We’re already about to terminate phase 1 of the project. Structural is up to the seventh floor. There is already a substantial completion. Phase 2 is under negotiated procurement,” she said.

The project was awarded first to C.E. Padilla Construction Inc. in July 2015, with an approved contract of P514 million. It was later increased to P564 million due to changes in the scope of work.

Delos Santos said that phase 2 has a budget of P300 million. It will be under a negotiated procurement contract, which means that C.E. Padilla Construction Inc. can continue working on the project to avoid delay.

Phase 2 includes plumbing, electrical, fire protection, mechanical and communication installations.

The hospital will have 200 beds, de los Santos said.

De los Santos, deputy mayor for health, has been overseeing the construction of the project.

In 2014, former mayor Michael Rama ordered the demolition of the old CCMC building after it was declared unsafe following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu and Bohol in October 2013.

Since the demolition, the City used the Bureau of Fire Protection and the old office of the Cebu City Transportation Office as a temporary hospital.

Kenneth Siasar, CCMC hospital administrator, said that once the civil works of the phase 1 of the project will be completed, they will apply for a hospital level accreditation before the Department of Health to allow them to use the new building. RVC
