Councilor to relinquish remaining committee chairmanships

AFTER he was removed from his committee chairmanships, Councilor R Leone Gerochi said he will relinquish the remaining committees he is holding.

Last Tuesday, October 9, majority of the City Council decided to declare vacancies of the committees headed by Gerochi and Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo.

Peñaredondo was removed from his position as the majority floor leader; chairmanship on committee on appropriation; committee on rules, ordinances, resolutions style, justice and legal affairs; committee on urban planning, housing and land development, zoning, expropriation, assessment and land acquisition.

While Gerochi was removed from being the assistant floor leader and committee on transportation, energy and public utilities.

Apart from the mentioned committees, Gerochi said that he will also give up the other committees: public services, environmental protection and ecology and good government and public accountability.

The council removed the two councilors from their respective committees due to “loss of trust and confidence,” according to Councilor Plaridel Nava during his privilege speech.

Gerochi stressed that the action took by the majority of the council is part of politics.

“Well actually, it’s an exercise of politics gid man na ‘ya,” Gerochi said.

Both of them were ousted from their committees through a resolution which was signed by the eight of the councilors namely Jose Efrain Treñas III, Lady Julie Grace Baronda, Ely Estante, Jr., Armand Parcon, Maria Irene Ong, Leila Luntao, Plaridel Nava and Joshua Alim.

Six of these councilors except Nava and Alim were identified to run under Congressman Jerry Treñas on the 2019 elections. Treñas will be the political contender of incumbent Mayor Jose Espinosa III for the mayoral post.

Gerochi will run as a vice mayor and Peñaredondo for councilor under Espinosa’s lead.
