FANS of Marvel, DC and superheroes in general, children and adults alike, will be having a blast this coming November 10 and 11 as Cagayan de Oro (CDO) Toy Show will have this year's theme anchored on superheroes.

To be held at Limketkai Rotunda in Limketkai Mall, producers Kristoffer Jan Liao and Rick Tidoy of CDO Toyzone have assured that the toy convention will be packed with more new and exciting activities.

"It’s gonna be bigger and much more interactive compared to the previous years. So marami tayong activity na yung mga audience natin makaka-join (So we have a lot of activity which our audience can join.)," Liao, the founder and head organizer of the CDO Toy Show, said.

This year's toy show will showcase more than 500 to 1,000 toys displayed in the exhibit by 50 participating collectors.

One of the highlights, though, is the gallery of 15 life-size superhero statues created by Demver Morales, which is a first in the exhibit.

Aside from the toy exhibit, other activities will include Cosplay contests, toy photography, Gundam building workshop and contest, and geek wars.

Each competition will only have one winner who will receive cash, toys, and gift certificates.

The organizers are optimistic that these activities will draw toy collectors and hobbyists not only from Cagayan de Oro but also from other regions in Mindanao, and even in Luzon and Visayas.

And it is for this reason that Liao and the others have decided to change the name of the toy show in 2019 to cater to a wider audience.

"I have bigger plans for the event and then next year is the fifth year so I want it something na para sa lahat (for everyone). Kasi when you say CDO Toy Show, most of the people will parang 'pang Cagayan lang yan.' Gusto ko para sa lahat (Because when you say CDO Toy Show, most of the peope will say that’s for Cagayan only. I want it for everyone.) ," Liao said.

The toy show founder and head organizer also said that toy conventions are something people all over the world anticipated and celebrated.

It is something that fans and collectors give their efforts and save up money just to be able to attend the event.

"Kasi I go to conventions, and then most of the people go to conventions and it’s not that cheap to fly from Mindanao kahit na may budget kasi mostly yung mga taga dito, yung mga teenagers lalo na yung mga bata pa, can't afford to fly out of the city just to go to conventions," Liao said as he shared how he came up with the idea to start a toy show in Cagayan de Oro in 2015.

"So sabi ko, 'why not bring it here to the city para yung mga gustong makapunta na hindi sila makapunta sa ibang lugar, dito na lang nila ma e-enjoy. At least malapit lang. And then para ding gusto ko rin syang maging annual event like parang Christmas, parang yearly may ine-expect ka na ganun," he added.

(So I said, why not bring it here to the city so that those who wanted to come but cannot afford to make it to other places, they can enjoy it here. At least it’s near. And then, I want to make it an annual event like for Christmas, so we have something to expect every year.)

The CDO Toy Show will be held during mall hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Registration for the contests and entrance are free.

"I would like to invite everyone to join the event because it’s something dedicated to the people here in Northern Mindanao and we work hard for this talaga. So I encourage everyone to join. And aside from that, it’s for free. Sali lang kayo and I hope to see you in the event," Liao said.
