Preps for level 2 hospital accreditation

THE JR Borja General Hospital is on its way to get a level two accreditation.

Dr. Ramon Nery, JRBGH chief of hospital said they will provide additional beds, increase medical personnel, offer 24/7 services, and open its intensive care unit (ICU), among others.

Nery said two buildings are currently under construction, which include the P70.5-million North Wing Building where the hospital's business office, offices of the hospital's different departments, and a modern out-patient department will be located.

A P198-million expansion project is underway to complete the hospital's West Wing.

The eight-bed capacity ICU is also almost complete and expected to open in early 2019. Nery said they are currently hiring more personnel to help maintain the operations in the ICU.

"It has always been our mission to provide affordable and quality health care to the people of Cagayan de Oro. For us the present administration, the affordable medical services for the poor is free medical services and we have extended that not only to the poorest of the poor but also to the working class because as far as the affordability, if you are in the working class, you are considered poor because of very expensive cost of health care nowadays," Nery said.

Nery also credited the city hospital's success not only to government agencies but also to its generous partners, private individuals and groups.

Next month, the Starkey Foundation will reportedly provide 1,000 hearing aids to adult and kids patients at the city hospital.

Also, Interplast, a group of surgeons around the globe will visit Cagayan de Oro to provide cleft palate operations to beneficiaries. They will also train doctors and paramedical staff in the city.

"We are now in transition to being upgraded into a level 2 hospital. We need to upgrade because we are serving almost the entire Mindanao. We get patients as far as Caraga region, Palawan, Zamboanga Sibugay because of our projects, so we expect more patients in the years to come," he added.
