FOOTBALL fanatics in Negros Occidental will again witness one of Southeast Asia’s most competitive football tournaments, the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup, which will be played at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City on November.
This marks the first time that Panaad Stadium will host the Suzuki Cup final round after hosting the Asean Football Championship qualifiers in 2006.
“The AFF Suzuki Cup makes its return to the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City,” PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr. said. “We invite all football stakeholders and more importantly, the fans to support the Men’s National Team in their home matches.”
As the Philippine Men’s Football Team begin its campaign for regional supremacy, expectations are high with four quality and exciting matches in a bid to claim the tournament title.
With a new tournament format, the AFF Suzuki Cup will bring thrilling football to all fans with the Philippines hosting two home matches in the group stages.
The Azkals are on a tough path taking familiar foes like Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand, and Indonesia in Group B.
The Philippines faces Singapore on November 13 and Thailand on November 21.
The Azkals play away match against Timor Leste on November 17 at Kuala Lumpur Stadium and against Indonesia on November 25 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
As part of the Azkals’ preparation, the national squad participated in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2018 in Bangladesh where the Philippines finished in the semi-finals.
The Filipino side held ranked 85th Oman on a one-all draw over the weekend in an International Friendly at the Al-Gharafa Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.
