DESPITE the threat of the new strain of the coronavirus, Filipino healthcare workers (HCWs) remain insistent on finding employment opportunities in Europe.

In a radio interview, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said many HCWs are adamant about finding jobs in European health facilities.

"It's dangerous now in European countries, especially in the UK," said Bello.

"But Filipinos are really brave in wanting to go there," he added.

The labor chief said this is the reason why they have been asking healthcare workers to sign "waivers" before being allowed to be deployed.

"We make sure that before they are deployed, they will sign a waiver stating they know what they are heading into and the dangers that go with it," he said.

"If they are willing to take the risk, don't blame us. There has to be a waiver," added Bello.

Under the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration Governing Board Resolution No. 17-2020, newly hired healthcare workers are required to execute a declaration signifying their knowledge and understanding of the risks involved as advised by the Philippine Government. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
