RECORD label 22 Tango Records’ coffee shop series Cuppa Folk is back and starts tomorrow night, 8 p.m., at Yolk Cafe located at Filinvest Cyberzone. Tomorrow’s show features Lourdes Maglinte, Sepia Times, Julia Quijano and The Vast.
Lourdes Maglinte recently released her newest single “2 Cents” now available on all digital streaming platforms.
What happens during a Cuppa Folk show? Intimacy is key. The featured artist gets not only to sing a song but share the story behind it as well. And while all of this is going on, the audience are encouraged to keep silent and refrain from talking, turning the space into a venue conducive for art appreciation.

Speaking of intimacy, pop punk band Annulled By Nature will be launching its second album this weekend in a (very intimate) gig at Handuraw Pizza, White Gold branch this Saturday, Oct. 20. I’ve had the privilege of hearing the album first-hand before its release and I must say that you’ll be getting exactly what you’ve signed up for—tons of fun, charged and melodic pop punk, with lyrical themes that will surely lead listeners to reminisce about the glories of carefree youth.
Joining the boys of ABN at the show are Flirt, Lightpost, Here In After and Secret Side Project. The album “Don’t Wait Before It’s Too Late” will be sold at the venue for only P300 each.
Cebu, being a tropical urban island and all, doesn’t need the summer heat to turn things into a hot affair. This is what the guys behind Island Vibes have in mind as it’s setting up a sizzling show this weekend.
“Soul Shakedown” at Draft Punk: Brewers and Skewers at Mango Square Mall will be this Saturday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m., and will feature some of the city’s best live acts: Junior Kilat, Mandaue Nights, Bethany, Arciemon Zion, Zone 38, Paola & Uly, TYO Tyo Logist, Silingan Ni Felicity, Stephanie Lhui, Andoni Ibarlucea, Simon Nuñez aka Mr. KingSpade, Selekta Lapulapu and James D. Special guests include the viral “Beat Bros” of Carcar.
Tickets are sold at Hostel 7 Cebu and Draft Punk. There is an ongoing “4 + 1” ticket promo until Oct. 19.
Last, on the global scene, fans of The Beatles will be happy to know that its album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” was named “most popular British album in history.” Just last weekend, the Official Charts Company said the 1967 record was Britain’s favorite album based on overall sales, download and streams in the United Kingdom.
Adele’s “21” finished second. Oasis’ “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?” followed in third place.
