Cebuano stops foes in double championships

CEBU-BASED pugs Adones Aguelo and Justine Darap walked away with knockout victories in the Battle of the Ring Gladiators—“Double Championships” last Sunday night at the East Awang Covered Court in Calbayog City. The experienced Aguelo won the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight crown with a seventh round stoppage of Joffrey Garcia in the main event. Garcia quit at the start of the seventh round. Aguelo improved to 30-17-2 with 20 knockouts, while Garcia dropped to 6-10-4 with five knockouts. Darap, on the other hand, made quick work of Garry Rojo and stopped him in the 2:39 mark of the opening round. He won the vacant Visproba flyweight belt. Darap remained unbeaten at 6-0 with three knockouts, while Rojo fell to 9-12 with five knockouts. In the undercard, Renoel Pael (23-8-1, 12 KOs) stopped Anthony Galigao (8-12, 3 KOs) in the second round. (EKA)
