Pads holds sitting volleyball demo

THE Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc. (Pads) will host a sitting volleyball demo workshop for persons with disabilities (PWDs) at the Southwestern University (SWU-Phinma) Coliseum today.

Coach Eric Hodgson, a CAP level III instructor in United States, will be the guest for the one-day workshop that is expected to gather 50 to 60 people. Hodgson has coached volleyball for 18 years and has been working within the Arizona region for the last 13 years.

Pads executive officer John Paul Maunes told SunStar Cebu yesterday that aside from the PWDs, there will be Physical Education (PE) teachers and faculty members who will join the workshop.

After the demo workshop, the teachers will be tasked to continue the program for the PWDs.

“Our concentration now is to teach the sport to the PE teachers. They will be the one who will do the follow-up training for PWDs,” he said.

Maunes is planning to set up a sitting volleyball team in Cebu. The Pads is known for the Adaptive Dragonboat Racing Team that competed in national and international events.

There will be around 15 members from Pads that will be present in the demo and also about 20 PWDs tapped by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The workshop will start with a discussion of the rules of the game at the SWU-Phinma AVR room and will be followed by a demo at the Aznar Coliseum. (RSC)
