DEFENDING champion Don Bosco Technological Center fights for survival today when they take on winless Sisters of Mary School Boystown in their final elimination round match of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. high school football competition at the Cebu City Sports Center.

DBTC, which won the first 10 titles in the league and had a series of two-peats since, is at fifth place in the six-team league with only four points to show in four games. Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, the only other team aside from DBTC to win the title, is first after winning all five games.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos is second on 10 points, while the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department is third with six points. The University of Southern Philippines Foundation is currently fourth with five points.

A win over SMS, which has conceded 14 goals and scored only once in four games, will have DBTC at seven points, allowing it to jump over USC-BED for third place. USPF will drop out of the semifinal picture if that happens.

A win will also set up an exciting semifinal clash with USJ-R for DBTC, which lost in their first game to the Jaguars 1-0 a year after beating the same team, 27-0. Some of the DBTC members who played in the Cesafi last year are now with USJ-R.

However, if DBTC loses or even is held to a draw by SMS-Boystown, a guest team in the Cesafi, the Greywolves will miss a semifinal spot for the first time in league history. A draw will have both DBTC and USPF at 5 points, but the Panthers have a better goal difference at -1 to DBTC’s -2 thanks to its 3-0 win over Boystown in their last game. (ML)
