PANABO City woodpusher Henry Roger Lopez will at last have a house to call his own when he claims the cash incentives of the two chess team gold medals and one individual silver he helped win for Team Philippines in the recently-concluded 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Lopez said, "I'm going to pay the house where I stay para may sarili na akong bahay."

In the Republic Act (RA) 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, an Asian Para Games gold medal will have a cash incentive of P1 million while a silver is worth P500,000 and a bronze is equivalent to P200,000.

The Filipino chessers harvested a total of five golds, two silvers and six bronzes in the Games.

Lopez and Fide master Sander Severino annexed the P1 men rapid team gold. Severino also copped the P1 men rapid individual gold with 6.5 points while Lopez settled for silver with five points and teammate Jasper Belarmino Rom, who earned 4.5 points, salvaged a bronze.

"I feel very happy winning golds in the Asian Para Games most especially when we swept the rapid events in P1 category. Seeing three Philippine flags raised was a rare feat and very memorable for me," he said in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao.

The team also got a gold in P1 men's team standard event.
