Mesias, Sitier top Samal 50

UNHERALDED Jasper Mesias and Angela May Sitier did not just survive the rigorous trail but they also emerged champions of the Samal 50 race held in from Barangay Balet to Casa Estrella Beach Camp in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).

The 50K route was composed of a grueling 80 percent trail course and 20 percent road track.

Mesias clocked a total of seven hours, 15 minutes and 37 seconds to crown himself the Samal 50 king. Waren Orong finished second with a time of 7:21.58 while Igi Sitier timed 7:30:23 to grab the third spot.

Sitier, for her part, registered 10:27:59 to clinch the women's 50K title over Genie Agoilo (11:35:09) and Karren Jane Catalino (12:20:11) who wounded up in the second and third place, respectively.

In 22K, Dante Desierto topped the men's event while Mariel Cantila ruled the distaff side.

Disierto checked in at 2:39:22, racing past next two finishers Choi Quimada (2:40:43) and Bagani dela Cruz (2:52:26) while Cantila (3:13:12) bested Cecilia Larobis (3:44:09) and Fineza Garcia (3:46:15).

The event was presented by Base Camp, Bagani and Beach Camp in partnership with the city government of Igacos with Salomon, Fitbar, Fern-C, NTR and Top Cafe as sponsors.
