Misamis Oriental vice guv eyes House seat

MISAMIS Oriental Vice Governor Joey Pelaez on Monday, October 15, said he is not seeking reelection for his third and final term as he decided to join the congressional race, representing the province's first district in the 2019 elections.

Pelaez on Monday confirmed that he is seeking a congressional seat under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

He also confirmed that his brother, provincial board member Jigjag Pelaez, is bidding for the capitol's second highest post.

But, Pelaez refused to identify Jigjag's running mate.

"You will know when we actually file our COC," Pelaez said.

Pelaez said he is uncertain if the Padayon Pilipino will back his candidacy.

"I think they have another candidate," he added.

Pelaez said the province's first district was underserved and needs more development.

The capitol's second top official said there is a need to catch up with the second district by influencing policies and decision and by bringing national government projects to the first district.

"This is why I am running for congress-to give our people the best service and provide needed infrastructure projects for our municipalities, barangays and schools," Pelaez said.

"I feel I can be effective as congressman in espousing my advocacies in education, energy, agriculture, health and entrepreneurship, among others," he added.
