PRESIDENTIAL son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte will still have to talk to President Rodrigo Duterte on whether he would run for vice mayor of Davao City as runningmate to sister Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is seeking reelection.

Sara filed her certificate of candidacy on Monday. October 15.

Since 9 a.m. Monday, she has been accompanying official candidates of the three congressional districts under Hugpong Alliance, an alliance of two parties Hugpong ng Tawong Lungsod (HTL) and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).

The candidates running for councilor of the first district were the first to file their COCs, followed by the aspiring councilors of the second district at around 1 p.m.

The last one to file were the candidates for councilors of the third district at 3 p.m. with Duterte-Carpio and Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag, who said that he will no longer run for any elective position anymore.

Sara said she talked with her younger brother Baste, but the latter was initially not receptive to the idea of running for vice mayor. The youngest presidential son, however, seemed to have changed his mind.

“Si Baste, tinanong ko siya kung gusto niya tumakbo, he said no. So mayroon akong kinausap na tao na tatakbo. After two days, sinabi na naman niya na tatakbo daw siya so sinabihan ko siya na sabihan si PRD (President Rodrigo Duterte),” Duterte-Carpio said.

She said they were still waiting for the final decision of President Duterte.

Meanhwile, Duterte-Carpio said her runningmate will be expected to file the certificate of candidacy (COC) at the “last minute”.

“Most likely ang vice mayor natin will be very last minute like 4:59 pm,” Duterte-Carpio said after she filed her COC for mayor, adding that there are two aspiring candidates for the said position.

“Dalawa yung candidates so let’s see kung sino yung mag-file,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio said the decision was not made final as one of the two candidates has not yet decided.

“Hintayin nalang natin kasi baka malagay sa alanganin yung isa. Kasi syempre kinausap ko yung isa to be my running mate, so pag hindi natuloy yun, lalabas ang pangalan niya. Hintayin nalang natin,” she said.
