Diamante junks plan for congress

TUBURAN Mayor Aljun Diamante confirms he is no longer pursuing plans to run for congressman of the third district of Cebu.

Diamante said the Partidong Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) favored the congressional candidacy of Pablo John Garcia over his.

In an interview, Diamante confirmed he already filed his certificate of candidacy yesterday for Tuburan vice mayor.

He will be the runningmate of his brother, Vice Mayor Danilo Diamante, who is vying for the mayoralty post.

Diamante said that, as to his congressional plans, he has endorsed former Pinamungajan mayor Geraldine Yapha as congressional candidate for the third district.

“We initially laid the groundwork for the third district. I believe Gaye (Yapha) will truly benefit from our setup,” Diamante said.

Diamante said that while he was originally from PDP-Laban, he has decided to shift alliances to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) after a falling out with his original party.

Diamante believes that his old party favored the political clout of the Garcias over him.

Despite what happened to him, Diamante assured his support for the candidacies of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.

Diamante said that through his district party, Sidlak Tercero, he will support candidates who are up against mayors and vice mayors running under PDP-Laban in the third district. (JKV)
