Cortes group files COCs

THE camp of Rep. Jonas Cortes (Cebu, sixth district) filed their certificates of candidacy in the Mandaue City election office yesterday.

Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna said his camp with Mayor Luigi Quisumbing is unfazed by what is described as a “power team” of their rivals.

The entire slate of Cortes arrived at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Mandaue City as soon as this opened.

Cortes is running for mayor. With him was his running mate, Provincial Board Member Glenn Bercede.

Also filing their certificates of candidacies (COC) are councilor bets Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, Cynthia Cinco-Remedio, Maline Cortes-Zafra, Malcolm Sanchez, Carmelino del Mar, lawyer Joel Seno, Cesar Cabahug, Jimmy Lumapas, Andreo Incalina and Jun Arcilla.

Also filing her COC is Emmarie ‘Lollipop’ Ouano-Dizon for Congress.

Their certificate of nomination and acceptance came from PDP-Laban, under One Cebu party of Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia (Cebu, third district), who will run for Cebu governor.

Cortes said that if elected, he will return to Mandaue City the kind of public service that he implemented before.

But Fortuna said a lot of employees under Cortes before were corrupt, who threw garbage anywhere and who didn’t know how to follow traffic rules and traffic enforcers who choose who to apprehend. (FMDD)
