MENTALLY active, physically healthy and emotionally strong, former Cebu governor and past deputy speaker of Congress Pablo Garcia took centerstage during his 93rd birthday party at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu ballroom. The festivities began with a Eucharistic Celebration officiated by Msgr. Roberto Alesna. Guests included family, friends, colleagues and admirers of the distinguished and accomplished man for all seasons.
Playing hosts were devoted children—Rep. Gwen G., Deirdra Vachal (mom of “The Voice” finalist Amy Vachal) who came all the way from the USA, Winston, Nelson, Marlon, Farla and Pablo John, and their families. Very much around too were his surviving brothers, former Dumanjug mayor Tomas Garcia and Mike Garcia. Tio Pabling is the younger brother of my late father Jesus.
Determination, diligence, discipline and devotion to duty are the qualities that have marked the life of Pablo Paras Garcia who grew up in the little barrio of Bitoon in Dumanjug. Highly intelligent and very hard-working, he made it to the top three in the bar exams of his time. After some years of successful law practice, he was called to government service and soon made a name in Cebu’s political landscape.
