THE Davao Ngilngig Festival (DNF) 2018 recently released its official festival poster—an ominous character backdropped by cinema tokens of old. The poster was rendered by a local art & sign maker, adding more nostalgia to the imagery. Before the digital age, this was one of the most practiced means to promote films and attract moviegoers.

Making films is a collaborative process. And the craft has long been supported by artists and artisans working outside the world of film. Alongside the festival's aspirations to expand the definition of ngilngig, it, too, attempts to invite others to explore ngilngig through other forms of art. The initiative was kickstarted last year, with live art from contemporary artists Soika Vomiter (Cebu) and Dabo Ibao (Davao); the release of an official DNF zine, or mini-magazine, with the partnership of The Panagtagbo; and a series of intimate and engaging discussions with various creatives through Panagtagbo Talks.

With the advent of festival mainstays such as in Competition Films, Exhibition Films, and full-length features, DNF 2018 will once again tap artists and art groups in the locale.

On October 26, the festival will partner with the Davao Graphic Design Community for an exhibition of movie posters. A series of Panagtagbo Talks will be conducted on October 27 and October 28 which will focus on improv, music, and other collaborative disciplines. On October 29, 2018, contemporary Davao artists Dokz and Over will conduct a live art session. A new DNF zine will also be launched this year, featuring artists and writers from Cebu, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao City. More details on each event can be found on the DNF website at www.davaongilngigfilms.com.

DNF 2018 is inviting filmmakers, creatives, and enthusiasts to come together to celebrate the scary, the strange, and the awesome. The festival runs from October 26-30.

The Davao Ngilngig Festival 2018 is organized by Pasalidahay with Balud Art Network, Global Shapers Community Davao, Micromedia Digital Video Productions, Origane Films, Pinoy Movie Blog, Swito Social Innovation Hub, The Panagtagbo, Timewrap Film Productions, and in partnership with Midtown Printing Co., Inc., Cinedashery East / Midtown Films. The Festival is also sponsored by Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Malagos Garden

Resort, and State of Mind Productions (Major), Green Windows Dorm and Hotel, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Sunstar Davao. (PR)
