United opposition ‘to beat’ Radazas

OPPOSITION candidates of Lapu-Lapu City may form an alliance against the Radazas.

This, as the mayoralty bet of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), Rolando Patalinjug, expressed disappointment over the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP)-Laban party for choosing another standard bearer even if he was the party’s mayoralty bet in the 2016 elections.

PDP-Laban’s bet for mayor, Pajo Barangay Captain Junard “Ahong” Chan, is confident they will defeat the administration of the Radazas if the opposition is united.

“For me it’s an easy win if the opposition is united. I am positive we will win,” Chan said.

Sec. Adelino Sitoy, presidential adviser on legislative affairs, said PDP-Laban and UNA share the same cause and identify a common enemy.

“No doubt about it. It’s better if we’re united,” Sitoy said.

Sitoy joined Chan’s group in filing their certificates of candidacies (COCs) at the Lapu-Lapu City Comelec office yesterday.

Patalinjug said there’s an ongoing negotiations to unite the opposition.

He said it was his supporters who pushed him to run for mayor despite his loss in 2016.

On his disappointment with PDP-Laban, he said, “I was the one with the PDP-Laban. Chan was with the Liberal Party (LP). That’s the problem. I am the candidate of PDP-Laban but it supports another bet,” Patalinjug said.

“That’s politics. It’s all about alignment. My decision is to support Ahong (Chan),” Sitoy said in another interview.

There are now four mayoralty bets for Lapu-Lapu City after two independent candidates filed their COCs, Paolo Cabahug and Virgilio Cano. They will vie for the post against Chan and Patalinjug.

Former representative Arturo “Boy” Radaza is expected to file his COC today.

He intends to replace incumbent Mayor Paz Radaza, who is on her last term. (FVQ)
