Father, daughter run for Naga’s top posts

THE man considered as the godfather of the City of Naga, Cebu yesterday filed his certificate of candidacy to try to reclaim the mayorship that he had served for three terms.

Valdemar “Val” Chiong has chosen his daughter, incumbent Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong, as his running mate.

Kristine said that from the beginning, she was reluctant to be mayor and told their political leaders that she would only serve for one term as mayor.

“I have no regrets becoming a mayor. But I slide down not because of what happened to the landslide tragedy but because of another opportunity (to show my) leadership and management style. (I can also try my hands at) legislation and at the same time focus my time on relocating people residing in dangerous areas,” Kristine said.

The councilorial bets under Chiong are neophytes Charmaine Navarro, Fortunato Manabat and Dominador Libor. Also in the list are Pablo Asuga, a come-backing councilor who will replace his wife Letecia Abangan, and reelectionist Virgilio Chiong, Avrelio Alinsonorin, Luzminda Lapitan, Poferio Resoba, Afshin Mark Señor and Justino Dakay.

The first two neophytes will replace third termers Rodrigo Navarro and Carmelino “Junjie” Cruz Jr. The third will replace Alexander Lara for the Provincial Board in the first district. (EOB)
