FOR the second time, Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino tried his luck at securing a seat at the Senate, as he filed his certificate of candidacy for the 2019 senatorial race before the Commission on Elections on Wednesday, October 17.

Tolentino will run under the Duterte administration's ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan.

"I trust the Filipino electorate. I trust the Filipino voter," he said.

"I was independent before. Ang hirap tumakbo nang mag-isa. So ngayon palagay ko hindi naman ako nag-iisa ngayon. (It's challenging to run as an independent candidate. But now, I will not run alone). [I will run under] PDP-Laban," Tolentino added.

He lost in the 2016 senatorial derby, following his bitter defeat to detained Senator Leila de Lima, who placed 12th in the previous elections.

A former ally of the opposition Liberal Party, Tolentino filed an electoral protest against De Lima, protesting his 13th rank in the 2016 elections and accusing the incumbent senator of rigging the results of the automated polls.

Tolentino ranked in the 24th to 30th bracket, according to the latest Pulse Asia's survey on the 2019 senatorial race. (SunStar Philippines)
