Fire victims get relief aid

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Wednesday, October 17, led the distribution of additional relief goods to families displaced by the early dawn fire in Lemon Drive, Canelar, Zamboanga City.

Salazar, assisted by other city officials and personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), personally handed out the relief goods to the 18 families whose houses were destroyed by the conflagration during rites held at the Canelar covered court.

CSWDO chief Maria Socorro Rojas said the relief goods included kitchen utensils, mats, canvas as well as rice, noodles and canned goods and other stuff.

Rojas said the cash assistance will also be given to the displaced families as soon as assessment and validation by the CSWDO is done.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire struck at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday, gutting down at least 10 residential houses.

No casualties were reported but damage to properties is estimated to have reached P300,000.
