OCENR pushes solid waste management program

THE Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) is working to strengthen the capacities of local villages in line with sanitation, particularly solid waste management.

OCENR’s public services officer IV Rodrigo Pagotaisidro reported the conduct of continuous assemblies in the villages, pursuant to the implementation of City Ordinance 176, for the reorganization of ecological solid waste management committees and the development of the barangay solid waste management plan.

Pagotaisidro said that the villages will shoulder bigger roles in waste management, particularly in identifying their respective purok or zone where to start segregation and the creation of an eco-volunteer group that will handle the solid waste management program.

The OCENR officer also reported that the budget for garbage trucks has already been approved.

He said the garbage trucks will be given to the barangays, who will then handle their own garbage collection, segregation, and disposal at the sanitary landfill.

Meanwhile, he said the OCENR will be spearheading the second Basura Run, its advocacy on cleanliness and fitness, at 5 a.m. on October 21, from the Guiwan Barangay Hall to the village of Tugbungan. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
