Mayor supports probe on corrupt local officials

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno welcomes the move of President Rodrigo Duterte to send some of his Cabinet members to investigate corruption allegations against some local officials

“Suportado of course, wala may problema, maayo man atong lakaw (I support it of course, no problem with that, we are in good shape)," Moreno said.

Moreno is currently facing graft charges over some projects implemented during his stint as the provincial governor. He has denied the charges.

Moreno said he was confident that these cases will not prosper. He pointed out that these are all politically motivated and initiated by his opponents, former Mayor Vicente "Dongkoy" Emano and his son, incumbent Governor Yevgeny "Bambi" Emano.

"Kanang mga kaso, of course hibalo man ta kinsa ang nagpasigunda ana (These cases of course we all know who initiated this), sila man Dongkoy ug Bambi (It's Dongkoy and Bambi, pero (but) these cases will not fly," he added

Governor Emano, on the other hand, welcomed this plan which is set on Friday, October 18, at Phividec, Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental.

Emano said this will be a good venue for people to bring to the President's attention the corrupt practices of government officials, elected or appointed.

He said he was proud to be facing zero corruption cases.

Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go brought this news during his visit here last week, and urged ordinary citizens, including government or private workers, to participate if they want to report corruption issues in government offices.
