DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) said the five-day period for the filing of certificates of candidacy has been generally peaceful.

Davao Police spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said they deployed some personnel to secure the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office at Magsaysay Park.

A Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team and another team from the Sta. Ana Police Station were also dispatched to the area.

“So far wala man na report na incident up to sa pag-file sa mga candidate. Padayon ang pag-provide og security coverage sa Davao City Police Office sa area sa Magsaysay kung asa ginahimo ang pag-file sa COC (No incidents were reported during the filing of COC. We continue to provide security coverage at Magsaysay (Park) where the filing of COC was conducted),” she said during the AFP-PNP press forum at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, October 17.

The filing of COCs was held from October 11 to October 17.

Asked on which areas would be included in the election watchlist areas (EWAs) in Davao City, Gaspan said they have yet to validate the hot spots that were previously identified during the May 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The list included Barangay 23-C under Category 1, where politically-motivated violent incidents are likely to occur due to intense partisan and political rivalries while there were more than 30 barangays classified under Category 2 because of the presence of lawless armed groups.

These included Buhangin, Toril, Paquibato, Marilog, Calinan and Tugbok.

“However, sa pagkakaron, we need to validate. Naghulat pa ta sa mag-submit nga station commanders kung mao pa ba gihapon ni nga mga barangays and we need to confirm it with the Armed Forces of the Philippines also kung naa na bay cleared ani nga area or the same pa ba gihapon (For now, we need to validate these information. We are waiting for the station commanders to submit reports if these areas are still considered as hotspots),” she said.

Gaspan said a coordinating conference with the Comelec will be held to come up with the EWAs. For now, they were consolidating their data to identify areas of concern.
