Troops told to remain neutral

THE Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (ID) reminded the troops to remain neutral and ensure the peaceful staging of the mid-term elections next year.

In support of the directive of their commander in chief, President Rodrigo Duterte, 10th ID Division Public Affairs Office (Dpao) chief Captain Jerry Lamosao assured that they will not take sides nor support any politicians who aspire for a government post during the 2019 elections.

"As always, we are a non-partisan organization. We follow what the Constitution requires of us and we are steadfast in performing our mandate that is protecting the people and securing the land,” Lamosao said.

Section 2 (4) of Article 9-B of the 1987 Constitution and Section 55, Title 1, Book V of the Administrative Code of 1987 strictly prohibits and imposes penalty on civil service employees and members of the Armed Forces from engaging in any partisan political activity during the election.

He cited that troops must only see to it to create a peaceful environment for the safe exercise of the public to their right to suffrage.

“The 10ID is here to protect the people and their rights... that include the right to suffrage or our right to vote. Likewise, as part of the community, the 10ID hopes for candidates who can propel the government projects and programs for the welfare and development of the Filipino people; and a candidate who is committed to fight illegal drugs, corruption, insurgency and terrorism," he added.
