2nd, 3rd districts rep posts unopposed

CANDIDATES for the second and third district congressional seats are officially unopposed, while presidential son Paolo Duterte will face two opponents for the first district congressional seat.

Running unopposed are Vincent Garcia for the second district and Isidro Ungab for the third district.

Both are running under the Hugpong Alliance, an alliance of Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Hugpong ng Tawong Lungsod Parties.

Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, on the other hand, will face Susan Uyanguren, a 43-year old fruit packaging worker, and Rex Labis, a 53-year-old businessman.

Both Uyanguren and Labis, who are running as independent candidates, said they were not afraid of Duterte.

"Ana sila, suntok sa buwan kay [dako] na pamilya ang gibangga mga na pamilya sa Davao City, pero ako, wala koy gikahadlukan (People are saying that I am running against someone who came from a powerful family in Davao City, but I am not afraid of anyone or anything)," Labis told reporters in an interview last Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

He urged Dabawenyos to choose the right candidate. He vowed to focus on education if he wins.

"Makita sa mga tao kung kinsa ang tinuoray na manerbisyo. Sila tested naman na sila, makita man nato ang resulta. Naa ba'y resulta? (The people know who truly serves the public. Their [Duterte family] service has already been tested and we can see the results. Has there been a result?)," Labis said.

Uyanguren, for her part, filed her COC for the same position last Monday, October 15, 2018, but the Commission on Elections (Comelec) did not proclaim her candidacy because she lacked some documents.

She officially filed her COC on Wednesday, October 17, the last day of the filing of COCs.

She said she is a supporter of Duterte and even claimed to be a relative of President Rodrigo Duterte.

She said she would push for land rights, housing for the underprivileged families, and family planning.
