Fortune picks Accenture as ‘best company to work for’

ACCENTURE has been named to FORTUNE magazine’s 2010 “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the second year in a row, ranking No. 84, up from No. 97 in 2009.

The annual ranking, now in its 13th year, is a prestigious recognition of the best in workplace culture and talent initiatives.

“People are our greatest asset, and attracting, nurturing and developing the best talent remains a top priority,” said LaMae Allen deJongh, managing director of Accenture’s US Human Capital and Diversity.

“We are honored to be recognized once again as a leading employer of choice—particularly as we continue to actively recruit for a variety of skills in the United States and around the world,” deJongh said.

Fortune highlights several of Accenture’s leading initiatives, including the Smart Work program, designed to reduce non-critical business travel while maintaining high standards of client service, and more than 45 Telepresence locations that enable employees to hold virtual meetings with clients and colleagues around the world.

Accenture is featured as one of 22 companies with at least 500 active job openings. Among the many other programs and initiatives Accenture provides for employees are:

Training & Development: Employees are offered career counseling as well as thousands of training courses each year.

In 2009, Accenture invested nearly US$800 million in training and development globally. Its diversity training provides leadership development that helps employees stretch themselves and management training that helps senior executives lead a diverse organization.

Healthy Lifestyles: Live Well is an online tool that gives employees quick and easy access to work/life balance resources, wellness solutions, financial programs and health/life benefits.

Employees can obtain information and resources that help with fitness, financial matters, nutrition, time and stress management, as well as a variety of other programs that encourage a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Caring for Families: Employees in the US receive 40 hours of backup dependent care each year to arrange support for aging parents, children, spouses or domestic partners.

Accenture’s enhanced eldercare program provides employees who are caring for an aging parent/relative access to six free hours a year of on the ground support to help manage their care options.

The Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For” list, conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute, was compiled based on employee surveys, accounting for two-thirds of a company’s score, and a detailed employer response, accounting for one-third of a company’s score. In 2010, more than 81,000 employees from 353 companies responded to Fortune’s 57-question survey covering such topics as attitudes toward management, job satisfaction and camaraderie. (PR)
