Bacolod mayor to work for ‘15-0 victory’

“I WILL still work for the 15-0 victory in 2019 elections.”

This was the reaction of re-electionist Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia on Wednesday, October 17, after former councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and mediaman Ray Carmona will challenge him in the mayoral post.

Leonardia said the primary concern of Grupo Progreso (GP) is to work for the 15-0 victory.

“If you give us 15-0, GP will take full responsibility. We will give you peace, unity and prosperity and we will do all the best,” he said.

He added that regardless of his opponents, he believes that pound-for-pound, their candidates have integrity, track record and teamwork.

The mayor noted that he cannot choose his opponents and whoever they are, he will continue his work for the people of Bacolod.

Batapa-Sigue of Asenso para sa Buas-damlag sang Bacolodnon-Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan (ABB-MKK) earlier said it’s her own decision to run for mayor.

“The political exercises in the Philippines is always democratic so when the opposition group approached me that they don’t have a mayoralty candidate, I had to think for about a week. I consulted everybody and asking them if there’s still a reason to return in Bacolod and all of them responded that I need to come back,” she said.

Carmona, an independent candidate, also said it’s his personal decision to run for mayor as an independent candidate and he will not support any political group in Bacolod.

He said this is a democratic country and he will present his platform to the people of Bacolod.
