Sports officiating confab kicks off

AS PART of its continuing effort for teachers to be effective and efficient managers of the government athletic meets, the Department of Education (DepEd)–Negros Occidental through the Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Council will conduct a live-out seminar-workshop in sports officiating on October 18 until October 20 and October 29 to 31 at the different venues in the province.

This seminar aims to update sports officiating officials on the latest trends, rules and regulations of their respective sports disciplines; upgrade their competencies as sports officiating officials in managing and officiating in school competitions; and identify qualified school officiating officials to officiate in the Congressional District Athletic Association Meets and Palarong Panlalawigan, and to be recommended in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet, and to attend in the national accreditation.

The seminar consists of theoretical lectures on the qualities and roles of officiating officials and the rules of sports, practical application, paper and practical examination and physical fitness test.

Sports experts who have served in the national and international competitions will serve as facilitators and coordinators.

The sports disciplines and venues are: athletics – Pontevedra track oval; archery and softball – Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City; arnis – Lopez Jaena National High School in Murcia; badminton – Victorias City Cultural Center; baseball, swimming and football – Bago City Sports Complex; basketball and boxing – Victorias City Coliseum;

Billiard, taekwondo, pencat silat and wushu – Negros Occidental High School; chess and table tennis – STI West Negros University; gymnastic – Bata Elementary School; tennis – Silay City Tennis Court, dance sports – Rizal Cultural and Civic Center in Silay City; volleyball – Pontevedra gym; and paralympics at Bacolod City Division Hall.
