THE world shines in pink hues as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Supporting the fight against breast cancer is Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, together with ICanServe Foundation Inc., with its month-long campaign called “Waterfront Goes Pink” filled with events and promotions for the cause. This is an initiative that aims to raise both awareness and funds.

Last Sept. 29, it presented “Pink Exodus: The First Pink Charity Ball” together with ICanServe Foundation Inc., ClothesforLife and Oro China. It was held at the hotel’s Pacific Grand Ballroom and featured the creations of Philipp Tampus, one of Cebu’s notable fashion designers.

“I decided on the title ‘Exodus’ because it’s a journey to fashion. There’s a biblical approach to the theme. Exodus from a difficult journey to the Promised Land; like all the breast cancer survivor friends who experienced a hard battle but in the end hope and have a beautiful life,” Philipp described.

Models walked on the runway wearing Philipp’s 2018-2019 holiday collection in a mix of bridal and black tie creations with jewelry by Oro China. The designs were inspired by the beauty of the Nymphs, mythological creatures that dwell deep in the woods using his favorite fabrics to manipulate: soft pastel tulle to get a light ombré effect with a sheer touch; and different kinds of lace for a rich, light and voluminous look.

Butterfly details were seen on the designs as he explained that it symbolized metamorphosis, or transformation.

Guests not only wined, dined and witnessed glamor that night but also supported the cause as proceeds will go to ICanServe Foundation Inc.

“Working with the ICanServe Foundation Inc. is always close to my heart. It’s me and Tita Mary Anne Alcordo-Solomon’s dream come true to start a Pink Ball for a cause celebrating life in spite of breast cancer,” added Philipp.
