AMID persistent rumors about his poor health due partly to the dark patches on his face, President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, October 18, confirmed that he has sought the help of a "very good" dermatologist to treat the discoloration.

Duterte made the remark as he quashed claims that the darkening of his skin could be attributed to kidney problems.

In a speech delivered in Manila Hotel, the 73-year-old President said that his skin looks dark because of his frequent visits to military camps.

"Ako 73 years old. Huwag kayong magtanong kung may sakit ako o wala. Lahat ng 73 years old dito sa p***** i**** mundong ito, may sakit. Pareho kayo dala-dala na 'yang mga maintenance nila," he said.

(I am already 73 years old. Do not ask me if I am sick or not. All 73 years old here in this son of a b**** world have ailment. They all have the maintenance.)

"Ako, kita mo, nangitim, kita mo sa... Nasunog... Pumupunta ako ng kampo every week, ang kampo sa bukid. Yung kampo, lumilipad ako doon. I visited every camp... Sabi nila may -- kasi 'yung may mga kidney, may sakit kasi mag-itim," he added.

(If you notice, my face has darkened. It has darkened... I go to camp every week. Camp is an open field. I fly to visit camps. I visited every camp... They said I have -- I have kydney problems because of the discoloration of my face.)

On August 30, Duterte said the dark patches on his face were caused by the multiple campaigns he had to wage in his 23-year political career.

Following speculations about his health status, Duterte admitted that he had to use Shiseido skin care products to hide the discoloration of his face.

He, however, said that he is not used to using skin care products, prompting him to seek advice from a dermatologist.

"Wala naman kasi ako mahilig maglagay ng -- nag-memelt eh, and I hate it... Kasi iyang ginamit ko sa asawa ko. Cream lang iyan. Eh, yung asawa ko, Sisheido. May one, two, three, four," Duterte said.

(I don't like putting too much skin care products on my face. It melts and I hate it. I used my wife's cream. She's using Shiseido. But you have to use one, two, three, four products.)

"P**** i**, bakit nangitim ako lalo. Then a dermatologist visited me. She's a lady but she's very good. [Sabi niya,] 'Anong ginagamit mo?' Ade sinulat ko yung, pina-picturean ko doon sa Davao kasama sa bahay tapos pinadala dito, tinignan niya. Sabi niya, eto lang ang gamitin mo," he added.

(Son of a b****, the discoloration of my face worsens. Then a dermatologist visited me. She's a lady but she's very good. [She asked], "What are you using?" I sent her the pictures of the products I used. She looked at it and advised me the products that I should use.)

Despite rumors about his health, the President said the public should instead look at a man's "character" and not his "skin color."

"Eh ano? Para sa akin, ang lalaki (So what? For me, a man) is not really [about] the color of your skin in the face. It's your character. Hindi mo ako bilib diyan sa gwapo gwapo tapos ano pa pala (I'm not impressed by good looks, if you have no good character)," he said. (SunStar Philippines)
