MSMEs told: Don’t shy away from AI

BUSINESS owners should not be afraid of artificial intelligence (AI) and use it to their advantage instead, a member of the Google Business Group said.

“We need to educate businesses on AI because some don’t understand why it’s important. We need to enlighten and educate why we have to use technology in our businesses, but we’re slowly getting there,” Nicole Padin, community manager of Google Business Group (GBG) Cebu, said.

Padin spoke at the launch of Google’s Devfest x Bizfest 2018, which micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs), business professionals and students are encouraged to join to learn about integrating technology to their businesses. The event consists of trainings and seminars on Google’s technology tools and is free for entrepreneurs and business students.

“There are actually companies and small businesses who are interested in integrating AI in their business processes,” she said.

Shad Roi dela Cruz, Google Developer Group (GDG) Cebu community manager, said topics like AI, augmented reality and other available Google tools like Google Maps, Google Home and Google Cloud will be tackled.

“Technology can actually scale their products faster than anything. This is an opportunity for them to see these tools that are currently available to help in their business,” he said.

Having AI in one’s business will take it to the next level by making everything smart, dela Cruz added.

Main topics for the event will focus on actions in Google, Android, cloud, web design and development, with workshops on machine learning and AI, panel discussions about the latest in software development, business development, marketing, blockchain and other Google technologies.

“If entrepreneurs don’t want to be left behind, they should join so they can learn and apply technology in their businesses and understand why it’s important for their future. Everyone is online already, and everyone is buying online because of social media,” Padin said.

The Google Devfest x Bizfest 2018 will be on Oct. 27 at the Summit Galleria Cebu. Those interested to join are encouraged to visit the GBG Cebu and GDG Cebu Facebook pages. (JOB)
