Endemic beetle discovered in Compostela Valley

SCIENTISTS recently discovered another endemic species of beetle in Maragusan, Compostela Valley.

The beetle was discovered by a team of scientists from Coleopatra Research Center led by Professor Analyn Cabras and University of Mindanao led by Milton Medina.

The Mansaka Weevil or Metapocyrtus (Orthcyrtus) Mansaka was discovered in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiveristy Corridor (EMBC), Maragusan, Compostela Valley. The EMBC is one of the last remaining intact forest in the Philippines.

The newly discovered 15 milimeter bettle has a unique Green, golden yellow or turquiose color pattern at its back.

"This is a Mindanao endemic species," Cabras said.

Meanwhile, the team will still have conduct a further study on the beetle's population and life cycle.
