Police: Stay alert during Undas

TWO weeks before the observance of Undas, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) urged the public who will be visiting the cemetery to be wary as robbers usually attack during this season.

DCPO spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan issued a reminder for those who will be leaving their homes to pay a visit to their departed loved ones to not leave their homes unguarded as based on their records, robbery incidents usually happen during this season.

She said homeowners should see to it that their houses are properly locked or asked the neighbors to look after their house while they are away.

For their security preparation, Gaspan said they have begun preparing for a security plan for Undas that is more than the regular security that they impose every day with additional and intensive measures. They will enforce three security blankets throughout the activity.

The inner layer will composed of those personnel who will provide security at the cemetery while the middle layer will be those who will facilitate the traffic especially in areas where the major cemeteries in Davao City are located. On the other hand, the third layer will be the establishment of checkpoint in the outer layer in the North and South.

In Davao City, Gaspan said there are 58 major cemeteries but overall, there are a total of 214 cemeteries including those in the remote areas. She assured that they will deploy policemen to ensure the peace and security the different areas. The deployment of the personnel will be on October 30 until November 4.

Gaspan meanwhile reminded the public who are planning to visit the graves of their loved ones to refrain from bringing prohibited items like bladed weapon, firearms, alcoholic drinks or explosives, gambling paraphernalia, and speakers.
