UNIT 4 harvested a total of six gold medals to dominate the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet 2018 wush sanda competition that closed at The Metro Fitness and Family Gym last Tuesday, October 16.

Unit 1 copped two golds while Units 5 and 8 each got one gold.

Unit 4's golden performers were Jahaziel Barbero (girls 45 kg), Geoff Bustamante (boys b 45 kg), Mikko Camingawan (boys b 48), Mar Juaradico (boys a 48 kg), John Chris Bacalso (boys a 52 kg) and Ryan Dave Turno (boys a 56 kg).

Unit 4 also salvaged three silvers courtesy of Princess Donna Orocio (girls 52 kg), Shane Salver (girls 48 kg) and Vanessa Villanueva (girls 42 kg).

Unit 5's lone champion was Claire Ibag (girls 42 kg) while Florika Jumalon (girls 52 kg) captured Unit 8's only gold.

Chief referee and head judge Nell Jone Astudillo said Edna Rivera is the winning coach who will mentor the city's wushu sanda team to the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2019 to be held in Davao City late January next year.

Astudillo, Davao Region’s representative and coach under the Wushu Federation Philippines-PSC-NSA, said the city's Davraa-bound roster is a force to reckon with.

"Kusog man, samot na ang girls kay kasagaran naa nay experience sa Davraa og Palarong Pambansa (We have strong chances, especially the girls who already have Davraa and Palarong Pambansa experience)," he told SunStar Davao in a Facebook interview on Thursday, October 18.
